History of Grama Panchayat
Dharmadam is a place that has played an important role in shaping the socio-cultural history of Kerala, especially North Malabar. Dharmadam village is famous in ancient Kerala history as Dharmapattanam and in modern Kerala history. The Anjarakandi river, which originates from the western slopes of the Wayanad hills, flows west for about 40 miles and splits into two, giving birth to the Dharmayapattanam island just before it joins the sea. This island, which is full of natural beauty between the two branches of the river and the Arabian Sea, is a panchayat comprising the lands of Dharmadam, Palayad, Andalur and Melur.
